New home for Lambeth Palace's priceless historic library planned

Proposals to construct a new library at Lambeth Palace are being drawn up. The Church Commissioners for England have appointed husband and wife architects Claire and Sandy Wright to draw up plans for a new library to house one of the world’s most important collections of historic religious documents and artwork, second only to the Vatican in size and importance.

A painting of the exiled Julia in a grotto in the Gulf of Salerno has sold at auction for more than five times its estimate, raising in excess of half a million pounds which will be used by the United Society (formerly USPG) and the Diocese of Europe in support of their response to the refugee crisis.

Adulteress in exile comes to the aid of refugees in Europe

A valuable painting by an Old Master, Joseph Wright of Derby, featuring the exiled adulteress Julia in a cavern in the Gulf of Salerno near Naples, is to be auctioned by Sotheby’s after its owners donated it to the Anglican mission agency United Society (Us, formerly USPG) to support their work with refugees.

75 years after Coventry Cathedral was destroyed in an aerial bombing campaign that blitzed the city around it; the Bishop of Coventry has warned against the “unintended consequences” of both physical and ideological collateral damage during a debate over whether or not Britain should expand its anti-Daesh campaign in Iraq to also include targets in Syrian territory.

Archbishop of Canterbury speaks on UK's anti-Daesh military campaign

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has said that the “Just War” criteria have been met to justify military action against Daesh (IS, ISIL, ISIS) in Syria; but warned that merely bombing Daesh targets would “confirm their dreadful belief that what they are doing is the will of God.” He called for a holistic approach to tackling Daesh, which should include a “global theological component”.

Child Sexual Abuse Inquiry investigates Anglican Churches in England and Wales

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, set up by the British government to examine “whether public bodies and other non-state institutions have taken seriously their duty of care to protect children from sexual abuse in England and Wales”, will investigate the Anglican Church as one of its first 12 investigations.
