The Electoral College of the Church in Wales, meeting at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Llandrindod Wells, has nominated the Rt Revd Dr Rowan Douglas Williams as Archbishop of Wales in succession to the Most Revd Alwyn Rice Jones who retired earlier this year.

(CT) The bishops of the Church in Wales this month lifted their ban the remarriage of divorcees in church. Clergy now have the freedom to conduct such services if their consciences allow it.

Ordinations of the first women priests in the Church in Wales took place last weekend. Services took place in the Cathedrals of St Asaph, Bangor, St David's, Monmouth and Llandaff on Saturday 11 January, and in St Asaph's (a second service) again and Brecon on 12 January. A total of 64 women were ordained priests over the weekend with more ordinations later in the month.
