The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, today welcomed senior church leaders and international development agencies at Lambeth Palace to pledge that the church will play a part in ending sexual violence and to launch a Tearfund report 'Silent No More'.

In August 2010, the Litoral Diocese of the Episcopal Church of Ecuador held a workshop covering the theme 'Domestic Violence in our Ecuadorian society'. The workshop looked at types and characteristics of violence in the family, and the factors that underlie this violence in the Ecuadorian context, such as cultural values, personal history and psycho-social environment.

“Violence against women is the most pervasive human rights violation in the world” is a sentiment spoken by Kofi Annan and echoed by almost every human rights organization, the United Nations, and countless other NGOs around the world.

A comprehensive motion to tackle violence against women was passed unanimously by the Provincial Synod of the Church of the Province of Southern Africa. The motion encouraged the church to improve awareness of the problems women face, to offer care and support to victims, and to implement stringent measures to deal with perpetrators.
