Only two per cent of Anglicans in England and Wales are converts, a new study suggests. Research by Dr Stephen Bullivant, published this week, suggests that in a group of 100 Anglicans, 93 will have been brought up as such, five will have started life in another Christian denomination, and only two would have belonged to no religion.

The Mission to Seafarers has been chosen as the nominated charity of this year’s Posidonia Cup sailing regatta and have been given the use of a yacht to compete in next month’s race off the coast of Athens. Now, the Anglican mission agency is looking for a crew to help them compete.

The Anglican Consultative Council has called on “every province, diocese and parish” in the Anglican Communion to “adopt a clear focus on intentional discipleship” as part of a “season of intentional discipleship” to run for the next nine-or-so years.

The Church of England’s Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Revd Stephen Cottrell, has suggested that churches should “renegotiate the Sunday contract” to include adult Sunday schools and eating together. The bishop made his comments during a plenary discussion on discipleship at the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) meeting ACC-16, in Lusaka.

Youth projects in the Anglican provinces of Kenya and Rwanda have been chosen by African Anglicans to receive the first of a new set of Anglican Communion awards in recognition of their success in youth discipleship.

A Communion-wide season of intentional discipleship should not be created to address poor church attendance, or to counter the challenge faced by churches with high attendance and low commitment. The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have called for a “great wave of prayer” for the evangelisation of England. In an “unprecedented step”, Justin Welby and John Sentamu have written to every parish priest in the Church of England, inviting churches across the country to take part in the focused prayer initiative in the week leading up to Pentecost Sunday.
