The Archbishop of Canterbury’s chaplain, the Revd Canon Dr Jo Wells, is to become the next Bishop of Dorking in the Church of England’s Guildford Diocese. Dr Wells will assist the Rt Revd Andrew Watson in leading the diocese, and will have a particular responsibility for nurturing nurture vocations and working with the many schools and colleges in the diocese.

Queen Elizabeth II has today taken part in the traditional Royal Maundy service but in a break from the usual tradition of visiting a different cathedral each year and selecting recipients from the local dioceses; the Queen held the ceremony in Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel and the elderly recipients were selected from throughout England.

The US Government has declared the persecution of Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East by Daesh (the self-proclaimed “Islamic State”) as a genocide. The statement, made today by US Secretary of State John Kerry, follows similar declarations in the past few months by the Council of Europe and the European Parliament.
