Anglo-Scottish ecumenical agreement approved by Church of Scotland

The Church of Scotland has this morning approved the Columba Declaration – an ecumenical agreement between it and the Church of England; and instructed the creation of an ecumenical “contact group” which would include representatives of the two churches and also the Scottish Episcopal Church.

Church of England approves historic agreement with Church of Scotland

An historic agreement recognising the longstanding ecumenical partnership between the Church of Scotland and the Church of England and paving the way for future joint working between the two churches has been backed today by the General Synod.

A proposed ecumenical agreement between the Church of England and the Presbyterian Church of Scotland is not about “novel doctrinal statements or additional institutional structures, but about growing in communion and partnership in mission, so that people may be drawn to the good news of peace, the gospel of Jesus Christ,” the agreement's authors say.

Scottish Episcopal Church concerned about cross-border ecumenical agreement

The Church of England and the (Presbyterian) Church of Scotland have reached “an historic agreement that recognises their longstanding ecumenical partnership and lays the groundwork for future joint projects,” the two churches have announced, but the (Anglican) Scottish Episcopal Church has called for a rethink, citing concerns about shared worship and the exchange of ministers.
