The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams has described as 'heartbreaking and harrowing' a meeting he held in Syria with refugees from Iraq. Over two hundred refugees, mostly members of Christian congregations, met Dr Williams in a Syrian Orthodox monastery at Ma'aret Sednaya, outside the Syrian capital.

Conflict transformation focus of nine-day gathering
Hosted by the Anglican Provinces of Rwanda and Burundi, the Anglican Peace and Justice Network (APJN) began its triennial meeting September 25 in Kigali, Rwanda, with a welcome from Rwandese Archbishop Emmanuel Mbona Kolini, who greeted the representatives from 17 provinces (list below) of the Anglican Communion, many of them from conflict regions.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has appointed Paula Clifford on a six month secondment from Christian Aid to help further the Church of England's quest for sustainable solutions to climate change, following on from the launch of the Church of England's "Shrinking the Footprint" initiative.
