The Primate of Australia, Archbishop Philip Freier, has increased the pressure on Pakistan over their continued detention of Asia Bibi under the country’s much criticised blasphemy laws, by writing to Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Australia, Naela Chohan, and Australia’s Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop, about the case.

The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia has decided to press for equal gender representation in its highest decision-making bodies. Archdeacon Mere Wallace moved a General Synod motion that sets the Province on track to meet the UNCSW goal of 50:50 gender representation.

The Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia has postponed a decision on whether or not to permit the blessing of same sex marriages until 2018. The proposal had been made by the Church’s “Way Forward” group which had been established by it’s 2014 General Synod.

A task group has been appointed to “maintain conversation” among the Primates of the Anglican Communion as requested by the Primates during their meeting in January. The Primates asked the Archbishop of Canterbury to establish the group as part of their commitment to “walk together” despite “deep differences”.

The Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia, Archbishop Philip Freier, has joined the leaders of 12 Christian denominations in a letter to government Treasurer Scott Morrison, in which they call on the federal government not to proceed with the scheduled $224 million Australian Dollars cut to the country’s aid budget.

A call for Anglicans to commemorate next year’s 500th anniversary of the Reformation and the commendation of a number of new inter-denominational agreements and reports were amongst a raft of ecumenical resolutions adopted by the Anglican Consultative Council when they met in Lusaka, Zambia, earlier this month.
