The Anglican Consultative Council passed a series of resolutions during the final discussion session at ACC-19 (July 4) which was themed ‘Called To One Hope’.

In a week of prayer, Bible study and ‘global conversations’ about the needs of the world, the Anglican Consultative Council’s resolutions focus on mission, ministry and advocacy.

Many relate to the ministry of various Anglican Member Churches, Commissions and Networks, whose international membership reflects the diversity of Anglican churches around the world.

The council resolutions will be passed on to the Member churches of the Anglican Communion, for consideration in their setting. The resolutions are non-binding, but are offered to contribute to the shared life and ministry of the Anglican Communion in the years ahead.

Themes in the resolutions of ACC-19 are wide ranging.

A mission and evangelism focused resolution has agreed a proposal for ‘Vision36’, an ambitious church planting initiative that will call for 1 million new churches to be planted in the next decade.

Encouraging young leaders in the work of peace and reconciliation has been backed, with a resolution commending the creation of an Anglican Communion Young Peacemakers Fellowship.

The importance of engaging and raising young leaders is also emphasised in a science-focused resolution.

On matters of women and war, the council has resolved to affirm the vital role that women play as peacebuilders and decision makers in places of conflict around the world.

Another peace and reconciliation resolution notes the 'ecumenical momentum' gathering around the 2030 and 2033 anniversaries of Jesus’s public ministry, which has a focus on ‘Blessed are the Peacemakers’ and encourages Member church involvement.

A health focused resolution encourages dioceses to establish ministries that collaborate with local health professionals and strive for community-led/asset based health promotion, referencing the ‘Health Promoting Church Model’.

An environmental resolution urges members to increase engagement with care for creation, support for climate resilience, initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and advocacy for a just transition, encouraging representatives to join the Anglican Communion Environmental Network (ACEN).

Another resolution recognises the diverse needs of those with physical, emotional, and intellectual disabilities, and asks the Communion to work towards a Disability Network

An additional resolution from the Anglican Consultative Council was also passed, in relation to The Nairobi-Cairo Proposals. It affirms the need for “relationships and trust to grow” when it comes to discerning the Anglican Communion’s leadership structures and life together. It also receives The Nairobi-Cairo Proposals as resources for “continuing discernment”.

The Standing Committee Resolution is available here.

The full set of finalised resolutions will be published on the Anglican Communion Office website following the conclusion of the Council meeting.

The Council session formerly concludes with a closing service at St Anne's Cathedral, Belfast later today.
