On 6 October 2024 a new installation ‘Where Angels Tread’ opens in Lichfield Cathedral, in the Church of England.
Featuring choirs of angels suspended across the Cathedral on voile panels, the installation will aim to take visitors on a journey through the life of St Chad, patron of Lichfield Cathedral, whose life was marked by visions of angels.
Visitors will be able to see the angels swoop over their heads, giving space for spiritual reflection.
The installation really comes to life at special Out of Hours Events where the Cathedral will be open for selected evenings to experience the angels in their glory: lit up, accompanied by an angelic soundtrack including references to angels, and featuring enlightening information panels telling the story of St Chad’s life, angel visions and offering space to reflect.
Canon Gregory Platten of Lichfield Cathedral said: “We’re really excited about welcoming visitors to experience this home-grown installation taking us on a journey in the footsteps of St Chad – the very person who put Lichfield on the map and made it the cathedral city it is today. Angels are fascinating, with rich spiritual significance; they ignite curiosities in so many people across the world..."
