The Moderator of the Church of Bangladesh and Bishop of Dhaka, the Most Revd Samuel Sunil Mankhin, has written to Mission Partners and well-wishers calling them to pray for Bangladesh in light of the recent unrest in the country and where hundreds of lives have been lost.  

He said: “We believe in the power of prayer and the strength of our global community. Your support and prayers are invaluable to us as we navigate these challenges. Together, we can work towards a brighter, more peaceful future for Bangladesh. Please pray for the peace of Bangladesh.”   

In the letter, which was written on 4 August, a day before Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, Archbishop Samuel highlights key points for prayer: peace and stability, government decisions that lead to reconciliation and healing, protection of all citizens - especially the vulnerable, restoration of communication, comfort and strength for families who are grieving, and unity among the Church and other faiths.   

Bishop Jo Bailey Wells, Deputy Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, said: “We join our brothers and sisters in Bangladesh who are working for peace and reconciliation in their land. Given the uncertainty as to the future, we pray for wisdom and generosity among those working together and making decisions during this transition period in government. And for healing for those who have been traumatised by recent troubles. We pray in the power of God and in the name of Christ.”
