[London Free Press by Megan Stacey] Southwestern Ontario Anglicans are forging closer ties with a Brazilian diocese three times the size of Ontario.
The Diocese of Huron signed onto a five-year partnership this month with an Anglican diocese in the Amazonia region of Brazil.
The two communities will embark upon what they call a companion diocese relationship, with plans to come together in support of environmental issues, missionary work in Canada and Brazil, and solidarity with indigenous populations around the globe.
Huron Bishop Robert Bennett and Brazilian Bishop Saulo Mauricio de Barros said the partnership is a way to forge ahead with a democratic and just vision of globalization.
“You need to think about these (international) possibilities. What can we do to transform the reality, together? The problem is a world of problems, so we need to work together the same way,” de Barros said.
