[The Children's Society by Michael Pavitt] Have a look at how we were helped young carers in England get the support they need.
Our work as part of the National Young Carers Coalition (NYCC) over the past several years has resulted in a major change in law to recognise young carers. Changes realised through amendments being passed in the Children and Families Bill are helping to begin a new era of support for the 166,000 young carers in England.
As a Young Carers in Focus intern, I’ve worked across the media and policy teams here at The Children’s Society, supporting our young carers celebration event, which will be held in Westminster tomorrow.
My internship presented me with the opportunity to gain a greater insight into the process that leads to our country’s laws being changed. I have been able to take a look at the work the goes on behind the scenes watching the policy and media departments on a daily basis in addition to researching the NYCC's campaign to improve young carers' rights.
Editor’s note: The Children’s Society was established in the 19th century as an Anglican charity.
