"As I look out of my hotel window in New York it is snowing. The weather is bitterly cold and even the New Yorkers are complaining. I arrived safely after a hair-raising yellow taxi ride from the airport. My cab driver put the heavy traffic down to the fact that drivers were leaving gaps between the cars (which sounds good to my ears). He promptly made it his personal mission to fill these gaps by screeching in and out of the traffic whilst at the same time yelling "Can you BER_LIEVE it!!

"I am in New York because a few months ago (much to my surprise) I had an e-mail to inform me that I had been selected by Lambeth Palace to be the official Church of England delegate to the 55th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW)...."
