Secretary General the Rev. Canon Kenneth Kearon announced that The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori “has offered to work with the Indigenous Network” as a liaison person. The Joint Standing Committee has re-established the principle of appointing a liaison for each of the Networks.
Presiding Bishop Katharine had attended the AIN Vancouver 2007 gathering and hopes to participant in the upcoming AIN Hawaii 2009. She has had several in-depth conversations with the AIN Secretary General and we welcome her enthusiasm and commitment to indigenous ministry, even with her busy schedule.
Bishop Katharine received a painted buffalo robe from AIN Secretary General Malcolm Naea Chun. The robe was pained by Lakota artist the Rev. Robert Two Bulls and depicts mantel of Matoaka's father as a symbol of the New Jamestown Covenant between the Episcopal Church and its indigenous minorities of the United States.
