The poorest of the poor are worst hit by flooding in Bangladesh and parts of North India and Nepal, says the Bishop of Dhaka.

The Rt Revd Michael Baroi, told Church Mission Society (CMS), The struggle of the people who are the poorest of the poor is becoming beyond bearing. Millions are now homeless, crying for food, drinking water and medicine. Many of our own church members are struggling to survive and daily I receive phone calls from those who are in desperate situations. In Dhaka city itself, many are suffering form diarrhoea and other water borne diseases as the sewage spews onto the streets and drinking water is contaminated.

CMS supports a project in one of Dhaka's urban slums. All the people in the area are displaced and church authorities are seeking help to meet their material needs.
