Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane, the Archbishop of Cape Town, will lead a group of South African leaders on a Pilgrimage of Reconciliation and Hope to the prison on Robben Island in March.

The Bishop Alison Bible School in Koboko in north-west Uganda was razed to the ground at the end of October by Ugandan rebels believed to be sponsored by the Government of Khartoum in their attempt to get the Sudanese refugees in the area back into the Sudan. Families were made to stay inside their houses as the grass roofs were set alight. Only when the smoke and fire were threatening to kill them were people let out.

In October 1996, more than one million Rwandan Hutu refugees, displaced by the 1994 Rwandan genocide, were forced to move from UNHCR refugee camps in Zaire. Camouflaged in their number were the feared Interahamwe, 70,000 Hutu militia who led the killings of moderate Hutus and 800,000 Tutsi in Rwanda two years before. As the refugees and Interahamwe moved towards Rwanda the Interahamwe killed Zairean villagers and kidnapped children to provide human shields.

The Revd Dr Leon Spencer who has served as Corresponding Secretary for the African Network of Institutions of Theological Education Preparing Anglicans for Ministry (ANITEPAM) has returned to USA and whilst he will continue his work with the organisation, the Network is looking for a successor to Dr Spencer who will be Africa-based.
