Anglican Church leaders in Africa have decided to reject financial aid from the liberal West, claiming that they will rather endure hardship "for a while" than sacrifice their faith and conscience on the "altar of money."

Twenty-six members of the congregation of All Saints' Cathedral, Nairobi, last Sunday arrived after a 500-kilometre walk to raise funds to complete construction on a Kshs 100 million (US$ 1.3 million) multi-purpose hall at the Cathedral.

The Diocese of Central Zimbabwe is planning an extensive food relief programme as the region is suffering a fourth year of major food shortages. The relief will be undertaken in conjunction with the Church’s HIV/AIDS programmes, as these programmes already have an existing support network, though resources are likely to be stretched to their limit.

The Church in the Province of Uganda has condemned the increasing incidence of mob justice in the country. Rt Revd Charles Odrukami said that mob justice was an abuse of human rights and had caused several deaths.

The design committee planning the Africa Anglican Bishops Conference (AABC) for October, which met in Nigeria last week, has clarified that the conference is not a reaction to current crises in the Anglican Communion. The clarification came in a press release issued today from the Council of Anglican Provinces of Africa (CAPA).

On 10 March, local security forces again disrupted the work of the Diocese of Renk. The security arrived at the site, which was officially allocated to the Church, and forced a halt to the building of the Church's school there and arrested the Diocesan Building supervisor, Timothy Manyuan Atem, and placed him in custody.
