The Bishops of the Church in Wales are launching a major consultation across Wales following the decision to ordain women as bishops.

As part of the legislation passed, the Bishops are required to draw up a Code of Practice to ensure all members of the Church, including those with conscientious objections to the decision, continued to feel accepted and valued within the Church.

Members are now being invited to have their say in what provisions that code should include.

The Bishops are asking people to write to them with their views and will also be organising open meetings in each of the six Welsh dioceses where people can speak about the issue.

The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, said, "While we, as bishops, welcome the decision that women can now be ordained as bishops in Wales, we recognise that there are some people who do not. We want to make sure that adequate provision is made for them so that they will still feel valued and accepted in the Church and will continue to worship and minister alongside us.  We have been entrusted to draw up a Code of Practice within a year and we are keen to consult as widely as possible with church members in order to reflect their views as best we can."

As a result of the legislation, it will be possible for women to be ordained as bishops from 12 September 2014.  The 12 month delay in the canon taking full effect is to give time for the Code of Practice to be drawn up.

The open meetings will be arranged in each diocese in the New Year to enable members to make submissions in person.  All will be welcome to attend and contribute. 

Finally, an open discussion will be held at the Church’s Governing Body meeting in April, before the Bishops develop and publish the Code of Practice before the September deadline.

Esgobion yn ymgynghori ar “god ymarfer” ar gyfer esgobion sy’n fenywod

Mae Esgobion yr Eglwys yng Nghymru yn lansio ymgynghoriad pwysig ledled Cymru yn dilyn y penderfyniad i ordeinio menywod yn esgobion.

Fel rhan o’r ddeddfwriaeth a basiwyd, rhaid i’r Esgobion baratoi Cod Ymarfer i sicrhau bod holl aelodau’r Eglwys, yn cynnwys y rhai sy’n gwrthwynebu’r penderfyniad fel mater o gydwybod, yn parhau i deimlo eu bod yn cael eu derbyn a’u gwerthfawrogi gan yr Eglwys.

Mae cyfle i aelodau gael dweud eu dweud ar ba ddarpariaethau y dylid eu cynnwys yn y cod hwnnw.

Mae’r Esgobion yn gofyn i bobl anfon eu sylwadau ysgrifenedig atynt a byddant hefyd yn trefnu cyfarfodydd agored ym mhob un o’r chwe esgobaeth yng Nghymru i roi cyfle i bobl drafod y mater.

Meddai Dr Barry Morgan, Archesgob Cymru: “Er ein bod ni’r esgobion yn croesawu’r penderfyniad i ganiatáu ordeinio menywod yn esgobion yng Nghymru, rydym ni’n cydnabod y bydd rhai pobl yn gwrthwynebu’r penderfyniad. Rydym ni’n awyddus i sicrhau darpariaeth briodol ar eu cyfer nhw er mwyn iddyn nhw barhau i deimlo bod croeso iddyn nhw yn yr Eglwys a bod yr Eglwys yn eu gwerthfawrogi ac er mwyn iddyn nhw barhau i addoli a gweinidogaethu ochr yn ochr â ni. Rydym ni wedi cael y dasg o baratoi Cod Ymarfer mewn blwyddyn ac rydym yn awyddus i ymgynghori â chymaint ag y gallwn o aelodau’r eglwys er mwyn i ni adlewyrchu eu barn orau ag y gallwn.”

O ganlyniad i’r ddeddfwriaeth, bydd modd ordeinio menywod yn esgobion o 12 Medi 2014. Ni fydd y Canon yn dod i rym yn llawn tan 12 mis ar ôl ei basio er mwyn rhoi cyfle i lunio’r Cod Ymarfer.

Dylid anfon sylwadau ysgrifenedig at Ysgrifennydd y Dalaith yn 39 Heol y Gadeirlan, Caerdydd CF11 9XF, neu at [email protected] cyn 31 Rhagfyr 2013.

Bydd y cyfarfodydd agored yn cael eu trefnu ym mhob esgobaeth yn y Flwyddyn Newydd i roi cyfle i aelodau  gyflwyno sylwadau wyneb yn wyneb. Bydd croeso i bawb fynychu a chyfrannu. 

Yn olaf, cynhelir trafodaeth agored yng nghyfarfod Corff Llywodraethol yr Eglwys ym mis Ebrill, cyn i’r Esgobion ddatblygu a chyhoeddi’r Cod Ymarfer cyn y dyddiad cau ym mis Medi.
