The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu is to visit the Anglican Diocese of Edmonton, Canada this month at the invitation of Bishop Jane Alexander.
The Archbishop’s ten day visit is one of many special events planned to commemorate the Edmonton Diocese’s Centennial Year. The Archbishop is to preach during the 100th Anniversary Service for Holy Trinity, Old Strathcona on Sunday 13 October. He will also preach during the Morning Service at St Augustine’s Parkland in Spruce Grove and during the Evensong Service at All Saints’ Cathedral on Sunday 20 October.
Dr John Sentamu will also speak at a fundraising dinner, on behalf of the Diocese of Edmonton’s Mission Fund, on 16 October, at the Matrix Hotel.
The Archbishop said: "This is my first visit to the Diocese of Edmonton, and I am looking forward to meeting Bishop Jane and to join in with everyone to celebrate the centennial year of this Diocese. My message to the Diocese will be about continuing to be the Good News of God in Christ – here is to the next 100 years!"
Bishop Jane Alexander says: "It is so important to maintain our connections with the wider Anglican Communion and to tend the bonds of affection. I am so excited to welcome Archbishop Sentamu and his wife Margaret to the Diocese of Edmonton."
