Church of Melanesia Names New Bishop For Hanuato'o

The Revd Alfred Karibongi was elected the new Bishop of the Diocese of Hanuato'o on July 10 his election was announced by the Archbishop of the Church of Melanesia and the Council of Bishops who formalised the result during the recent Bishops meeting at TNK on north Guadalcanal where the election was held.

A former Vicar General of the Diocese of Central Melanesia, Fr. Karibongi is presently the Dean of St Barnabas Cathedral in Honiara.

Fr. Karibongi was a former Agriculture Officer in the government before taking up theological studies in 1987.

He graduated with a Diploma in Theology at Bishop Patteson Theological College in 1990 and later obtained a Bachelor of Theology at St John's Theological College in Auckland, New Zealand in 2002.

Fr. Karibongi's consecration and installation will take place later this year in the Diocese of Hanuatoo.

He is from Arosi in Makira. He is married to Esther and they have six children.
