Sydney Fires: Update from Springwood

The good news is that we have had no loss of life. But we are still worried that the fires may jump the highway into the untouched (forests of the) Grose Valley. Thanks to Rob and Lesley Scott (see below), our church has been able to distribute food hampers to those affected in Winmalee. We have been putting together food hampers for the parishes of Mulgoa and Kurrajong that have been more badly affected.

Our focus is now on running prayer meetings, collecting food for the destitute, and organising a phone link up for church members and pastoral visiting.

I was particularly disappointed that no one in the media said that the weather conditions last Sunday were an answer to prayer. The horrendous conditions that were expected on Sunday did not eventuate and this allowed the 'firees' to do their preparation work before the fire front could arrive.

We put a banner of encouragement to the 'firees' out the front of our church. It said that we were praying for them and for rain.
