Following the terrorist bomb attack on New York and Washington D.C on 11th September 2001, and the subsequent destruction of tens of thousands of lives.

The Litany

God the Father, creator of the universe and all that is there
ALL: Have mercy on us.

God the Son, the Saviour of the world
ALL: Have mercy on us.

God the Holy Spirit the comforter of humanity
ALL: Have mercy on us.

Holy, blessed and glorious Trinity
ALL: Have mercy on us.

From all satanic plottings against your Church.
ALL: O Lord deliver us

From malice and hatred, from all forms of corruption and worldliness
ALL: O Lord deliver us

From all fear of persecution and the dread of death.
ALL: O Lord deliver us

Protect and direct your holy Church to the source of truth; govern and encourage her to speak the truth in love, both in season and out of season.
ALL: Hear us O Lord.

Enlighten your ministers with knowledge and understanding, that by their teaching and their lives, they may proclaim your Word.

That by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit they may be encouraged to persevere to the end.

For their homes and families, that they may be adorned with all Christian virtues.

For the president and the people of America during this time of great mourning for the victims of terrorist bombing of the World Trace Centre in New York and the Pentagon in Washington D.C on 11th September 2001, in what is the world's worst catastrophe in the new millennium.

We thank you for those who survived the bombing.
ALL: We thank you Lord.

For the thousands of families and friends who have lost loved ones through the bomb tragedy.
ALL: Console and strengthen them.

Remember them in their grief as they bury the dead.
ALL: Console and strengthen them.

Remember all who search or wait in vain for the remains of their loved ones.
ALL: Console and strengthen them.

In you we trust, Lord, for the rebuilding of the shattered centres, the rekindling of people's hopes for greater security in the times ahead, and for the strengthening of the traumatised and the quick recovery for the injured ones in hospitals. We pray to you Lord Jesus.
ALL: Hear our prayers.

Let us pray for the terrorist men and women of the world, that their hearts may be turned towards peace, justice reconciliation, and that they may respect the sanctity of human life regardless of colour or creed. We pray to you Lord Jesus.
ALL: Hear our prayers.

Let us pray for the Middle East, that the present chaos may come to an end, and that both the Israelis and the Palestinians would respect each others rights and privileges, and that they would both work towards Peace for the sake of all the people of the Middle East. We pray to you Lord Jesus.

For your blessing on the life and work to which you call us, for the right use of your gifts to us, that the world may be freed from poverty, famine and disaster.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

For the poor, the persecuted and the suffering; for prisoners and the wrongfully detained, refugees and all in danger; that they may be relieved and protected.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

For the terminally ill, for the victims of HIV/AIDS, that they may be comforted in their suffering; grant them hope and peace that passes all understanding.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

For doctors and others in the medical research who spend many hours in various laboratories of the world searching for cures for diseases.
ALL: Grant them patience, endurance and success.

For the little children and babies: born and unborn, that their tender lives may be protected and their rights guarded.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

Guide and govern your holy Church, fill it with love and truth, and grant it that unity which is your will, binding it together with your Spirit.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

Give courage to our bishops, that they may courageously proclaim the good news of the Kingdom, and fearlessly challenge injustices in our nations and in the world.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

Bring into the way of truth, all who have erred and are deceived and those who have been tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

Strengthen those who stand, comfort and help the fainthearted, raise up the fallen and finally beat down Satan under your feet
ALL: Hear us O Lord

From disordered and sinful affections and from the deceits of the world, the flesh and the devil.
ALL: O Lord deliver us

From drought and floods, from earthquakes and other natural disasters, from wicked people who plan evil against us, from gangsters, robbers, murderers, carjackers, hijackers and bombers, and reckless motorists, from slanderers and rumour mongers,
ALL: O Lord deliver us.

Guide our President and other leaders of this country into ways of justice, peace and unity. Grant that there will be peace within our borders, that all the people in this region may live in harmony and enjoy good neighbourliness.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

For tolerance among people of different political and religious persuasions, for greater respect for one another's opinions and convictions, for greater thirst after truth and justice for all, that political thuggeries and assassinations and all forms of destruction of human lives may come to an end, that people may enjoy fullness of life as God intended to.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

Guide and bless those who administer the law; that justice, honesty and truth may be upheld, that we may be ruled in the fear of God.
ALL: And be at peace with each other

Help and comfort the lonely, the bereaved, the oppressed and the voiceless,
ALL: Help and comfort them

Protect our bishops and ministers from threats and intimidations of all kinds.
ALL: Lord protect them

Heal the sick in body and mind, provide for the homeless, the hungry and the destitute.
ALL: Lord have mercy

Pour your blessing on all human labour, that your people may enjoy good output, be well fed and live in economic comfort.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

Preserve and guard integrity of creation against exploitation; that forests, lakes, game reserves and other natural and environmental resources might be safeguarded against misuse or abuse.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

For all of us here gathered in your name and for your service; for the forgiveness of our sins, and for the grace of the Holy Spirit to amend our lives.
ALL: Hear us O Lord

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.

Final prayers

Now to him that is able to keep you from falling
and to present you faultless before the presence
of his glory with exceeding joy,
