[North India Church Review] The Diocese of Sambalpur, part of the Church of North India, includes the province of Orissa that was devastated by a cyclone last October. This unprecedented storm hit the coastal area causing widespread flooding several miles inland, claiming thousands of human lives and making many more homeless.

With countless children orphaned in this poverty struck area of India, the future seemed bleak. With the disaster forgotten by the world's media, work still goes on, with ordinary members of the Diocese of Sambalpur contributing generously, not only money, but also goods, talents, and time.

Programmes are underway for relief of the direct suffering still caused by the super cyclone, for rehabilitation of the homeless, injured and dispossessed, and for urgently needed child care. Working closely with the social services department of the German Christian Endeavour, the Diocese is determined to put faith into action, demonstrating that God cares for all who suffer, irrespective of caste and creed.
